ArTeva Lab: Soccer, Concussion, and a Patient’s Migraine Journey
Meet my patient, a woman in her late 20s, who came to me with:
Chronic migraines (occurring weekly or every other week for the past 4 years).
Persistent neck and shoulder tightness.
Fatigue, low energy, and dizziness.
Despite making significant lifestyle improvements, she couldn’t find lasting relief from her migraines.
What She Tried Before Coming to Us
Lifestyle Changes She Made:
Improved sleep hygiene.
Managed stress responses.
Enhanced hydration and diet.
Regulated hormones with birth control.
Treatments She Received:
Regular massages.
Botox injections every 12 weeks for head, neck, and shoulders.
Triptan medications for acute migraine relief.
Even with all these efforts, her migraines persisted.
Digging Deeper into the Cause
During her assessment, we uncovered she played soccer in high school and college. Due to countless instances of “heading” the soccer ball in practice and in games, we considered possible undetected concussions from her soccer years.
Testing the theory
To possibly link her past to present day, we observed her reactions to some tests which may give clues aligning with common post-concussion indicators:
Trouble controlling eye movements and dizziness while tracking a moving pen.
Blurred vision while focusing on objects at different distances.
Eye fatigue during tasks like reading or screen use.
Difficulty converging and aligning the eyes to focus on nearby objects.
Chronic neck tension and persistent fatigue further supported the diagnosis. Eye testing confirmed issues with coordination—a critical clue to the root cause.
Using Neuro-acupuncture to treat Migraines
Her treatment was structured with possible past concussion and used Neuro-acupuncture to address brain pathways and
reduce migraine frequency. Assigned her eye exercises to retrain and improve eye coordination.
Real Results in Just 6 Weeks
After 6 weeks of treatment and tracking her migraine occurrence for a few months, her migraines decreased from once
every 2 weeks to just once a month. She experienced improved energy, reduced dizziness, and eased neck tension. She continues working on her eye exercises to ensure lasting results.
To leave no stone unturned
If you’re dealing with chronic migraines, ask yourself:
Have you had a head injury or played contact sports at any point in your life?
Do you notice dizziness or trouble with eye movements?
The brain and body are deeply connected - addressing the root cause can make all the difference. At Arteva Acupuncture, we treat the root cause, not just the symptoms.
